Nineteen people, including seven children, have been injured after a drunk truck driver plowed into a crowd in the city of Sainte-Anne in the French territory of Guadeloupe during a Christmas lights-launch event.

Residents had gathered in the main square for the celebration when the incident occurred, as the group that was struck had been purchasing food from a nearby truck.

Authorities arrested the driver, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
